Centili now offers MTN Mobile Money service in Uganda

Centili has added a new payments option for MTN subscribers in Uganda, by connecting directly to the popular MTN Mobile Money service.

Online merchants can now use our mobile payments solution to monetise their virtual and physical goods through an easy-to-integrate Centili payment page. The payments flow is easy for the end user, and the transaction confirmed over a USSD session.

Users choose the product they wish to purchase and enter their mobile phone number into the Centili widget. A USSD session is simultaneously pushed on their mobile phone, allowing them to enter their Mobile Money PIN, and confirm the transaction. The amount is then deducted from their MTN Mobile Money account.

MTN’s Mobile Money allows users to send or receive money from and to mobile phones, as well as make payments. The platform has been adopted by different companies and services in Uganda, where Mobile Money is used for paying school fees, electricity and water bills, TV subscriptions etc.

With Ugandan economy being largely cash-based, the end-user adoption of the Mobile Money service has been remarkable. The number of registered users has grown to 17.6 million, with over 445 million completed transactions so far.
