From “cash only”, urban societies have quickly evolved to use e-wallets, virtual currencies, vouchers, or rely on mobile operators for direct carrier billing. As we pay for parking with our smartphones, we usually don’t think about digital monetisation and how it changes our habits and daily routines. Yet, smart payments transform our behaviours by offering new convenience and will keep doing that even more in the future.

Smart payments have been announced as one of the agenda items at the Smart City Expo 2022 in Dubai, in which Centili will participate. As one of the keynote speakers, our VP Regional Growth MEA Amir Ghaly will share his thoughts on how smart payments transform urban living. His speech, titled “How smart payments transform fintech and urban living in smart cities”, is scheduled for March 29.

Ghaly will touch on the multiple smart payment options and the emerging areas for alternative payment methods, particularly in developing markets with large unbanked city populations. The covid pandemic has pushed some consumers to use other cashless payments options, aside from bank cards. Many have tried direct carrier billing for the first time in the last two years, and the trend is likely to continue. Total end-user-spend via carrier billing is expected to increase by more than 23 billion in the next four years.

Smart City Expo Dubai is a platform for people and organisations to discover emerging trends that shape our understanding of future cities. More than 5000 visitors are expected to attend. Metaverse, blockchain, Internet of Things, cyber threats, circular water management, smart healthcare and many other topics will be discussed, emphasising the post-covid economy in smart cities.

See you in Dubai on March 28 and 29 – reach out to Amir Ghaly to book a meeting at Smart City Expo 2022.
